Not that Dagestan is a peaceful and bucolic area of the world, mind you. That area has been a hotbed of Islamic activity since the fall of the USSR in 1989. It is a dangerous place that one must really have a need to visit there. Tamerlan Tsarnaev spent 6 months there, is it possible the perps of this jihad attack also interacted with Tamerlan while he was there?

MAKHACHKALA, Russia (AP) — A bomb exploded Wednesday in a busy shopping area in the capital of Russia's restive republic of Dagestan, killing at least two people, police said.
Two teenage boys who tried to open a cardboard box left near a store were killed when the bomb inside went off, police said.
The explosion in the city of Makhachkala also wounded an undetermined number of people, said a spokeswoman for the republic's Interior Ministry, Fatina Ubaidatova. She had no further details about the bomb.
Islamic insurgents frequently mount attacks on police and Russian security forces in Dagestan, with bombs often placed in cars or along roads....
