Pro-Gaza petition to ban Joan Rivers’ UK tour

Thousands of people have signed a petition to halt U.S. television host Joan River’s upcoming tour in Britain after her remarks about the crisis in Gaza, British newspaper The Times reported Thursday.

The petition was created by Dipu Ahad, a Labour councillor from Newcastle, has been signed by more than 20,000 people so far.

It is available on change.org and urges event organizers to cancel all her upcoming UK tour dates.

Last week, Rivers, a comedian, made headlines when she said Palestinians “deserve to be dead” after she was approached by a reporter working for U.S. entertainment website TMZ asking her opinion on the more than 2,000 Palestinians who have been killed by Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

“They started it. We now don’t count who’s dead. You’re dead, you deserve to be dead... Don’t you dare make me feel sad about that... You don’t get out, then you know you’re an idiot,” Rivers said.

The television host later said that her comments were taken out of context.

Ahad said that Rivers was “not welcome in Britain.”
