"We're here today to say to Israel: Go to Hell"

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt assembles thousands to protest Israel.

Feel the love.

Muslim Brotherhood mobilizes protests against Israel in Cairo

10:36AM EST November 16. 2012 - CAIRO – Thousands of Egyptians took to the streets Friday protesting Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, waving Palestinian flags across the Egyptian capital and demanding the Egyptian government cut ties with Israel.

"We're here today to say to Israel: Go to Hell," said Mustafa Kamel from a Cairo neighborhood called Imbaba at a demonstration outside Al-Azhar Mosque that was planned by the Muslim Brotherhood. "Muslims are strong. In Egypt, we refuse Israel and the politics of America."

Demonstrations also took place in Tahrir Square following days of intense escalation in violence between Israel and the Gaza Strip, posing challenges for Egypt's new government and its president, Mohamed Morsi.

"The Muslim Brotherhood has made it clear they want to use this as an excuse to sever ties," said Eric Trager of the pro-Israeli Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Morsi, who formerly headed the Brotherhood's political wing but no longer officially belongs to the party, is caught between his ideology and affiliation with the group and the Egyptian officials he's entrusted to manage Egypt-Israel relations, Trager said.

The matter of ties between the two nations is a "sensitive issue" for Morsi, said Mohamed El Mekkawi, a member of the foreign relations committee for the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party. The Egyptian president has tried to create a new strategy for relations based on the pillar of benefits between Egypt and Israel, but Israeli attacks on Gaza have "complicated the situation,"he said.
The border area was calm Friday as Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip. met with diplomats from Egypt and Turkey. Hamas is a designated Palestinian terror organization and has fired hundreds of rockets into Israeli neighborhoods this year. Last weekend Hamas terrorists fired nearly 200 rockets in a barrage that Israel vowed to stop.

The Palestinians say at least 19 people have been killed by the Israeli attacks. Israel said that is regrettable but that it is Hamas that bears responsibility for the deaths by its unprovoked attacks on Israeli civilians. This week Israel launched with air attacks against various targets inside Gaza: weapons depots and rocket factories. On Wednesday it fired a missile into the car containing a Hamas military commander, killing him.

Why the jihad from Hamas against Israel will never end

Here is a short piece about the driving doctrine of Hamas against Israel.  Let's see if my local paper will print it.

It's the jihad, stupid!

The merry-go-round has started up again. Hamas launches hundreds of rockets into Israel, murdering three innocents, and the world yawns. Israel retaliates in self-defense and is roundly condemned for its “aggression” and for starting another war with the poor refugees in Gaza. Israel is always blamed for “starting it” yet the real reason, which is refused acknowledgement by the left and Islamic apologists is Islamic doctrine. To understand the behavior of a group it is best to read what their mission statement is. For Hamas it is their charter which says that there is no negotiating for peace, there is only the destruction of Israel and the scattering of the Jews to the four winds.

The Hamas Charter is filled with quotes from the Qur’an and continuous praises for Allah and Islam, as well as multiple calls for the murder of Jews and other non-Muslims, all geared to justify and support their genocidal hatred.

Article one says “The Movement's (Hamas) program is Islam. Article two says “(Hamas) is one of the wings of Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine.” Article eight is their slogan “Allah is its target, the Prophet is its model, the Koran its constitution, Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes.” Article 15 says “In face of the Jews' usurpation of Palestine…Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Muslim.”

In a war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel, defeat jihad. (Thanks to Pamela Geller and the AFDI for the last line)

Hamas launches missiles from site surrounded by a playground, mosque, gas station and civilian factories, but Israel is the bad guy

Disgusting.  Hamas cares nothing for human life, either their own, their children and women or any innocents that may be in the way of the carnage.  Hamas deliberately puts their own families in the IDF line of fire, and then uses those deaths to demonize and vilify Israel.  This is a sick and twisted mentality, but not unusual for those who practice Islam and follow the morals and examples of Muhammad.

TEL AVIV – A missile launch site in the Gaza Strip was set up by Hamas just half a block from a mosque and children’s playground, according to aerial photographs provided to KleinOnline by the Israel Defense Forces today.

Israel on Wednesday carried out a surgical strike of the site in question – a Fajr-5 missile launch pad established in the heavily populated Zeitoun district of Gaza to fire long range rockets into the Jewish state.

The photograph of the launch site, posted above, shows a children’s playground and a mosque located about a half a block away as well as two civilian factories and a gas station also within a half a block radius.

In a new development, Hamas today said it fired a rocket toward Jerusalem. Air sirens were heard in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. Security sources confirmed one rocket had landed in an open area in a Palestinian village just outside Gush Etzion, a suburb located south of Jerusalem near Bethlehem.

Abu Abdullah, a spokesperson for Hamas’ so-called military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, told KleinOnline today the rocket fired at Jerusalem was aimed at the Knesset, or Israel’s parliament.

Abdullah also claimed Hamas was targeting the official residence of Israeli President Shimon Peres with the Jerusalem rocket fire.

“This is not the end of the surprises we can have,” Abdullah said.

“In some circumstances, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem will not be the last station of our targets.”

Also today air raid sirens were blasted in Tel Aviv and an explosion could be heard.

Defense sources said a missile landed in an open area and that it did not strike ground.

No injuries or damage were reported in Tel Aviv.

Yesterday, the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility firing Fajr-5 missiles aimed at Tel Aviv.

Also yesterday, one rocket launched from the Gaza Strip landed in Rishon Letzion, some 7 miles south of Tel Aviv. About three hours later another explosion was heard in the Tel Aviv area. Defense sources said the second explosion was a missile that landed in an open area.

No casualties were reported in either the Tel Aviv or Rishon Leztion areas.

Sixty-seven rockets fired from the Gaza Strip struck Israel on today. The country’s Iron Dome system intercepted 55 more rockets before Shabbat started today.

In all, 335 rockets have struck Israel since Operation Pillar of Defense began two days ago.

Petraeus: "Al-Qaeda involvement" removed from memo sent to Obama on Benghazi

And as of now, no one knows who did it, or the reasons behind it.  Very troubling and dangerous for our security, and disturbing that someone thought it a good idea to not tell the WH what the truth was in a time of crisis.

We are doomed.

Intel officials unable to say who changed CIA talking points on Libya, lawmaker says

Former CIA Director David Petraeus stoked the controversy over the Obama administration's handling of the Libya terror attack, testifying Friday that references to "Al Qaeda involvement" were stripped from his agency's original talking points -- while other intelligence officials were unable to say who changed the memo, according to a top lawmaker who was briefed.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News that intelligence officials who testified in a closed-door hearing a day earlier, including Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Acting CIA Director Mike Morell, said they did not know who changed the talking points. He said they went out to multiple departments, including the State Department, National Security Council, Justice Department and White House.

"To me the question right now is who changed those talking points and why. ... I'd say it was somebody in the administration had to have taken it out," King told Fox News. "That, to me, has to be pursued."

Petraeus left Capitol Hill around noon, after testifying in private hearings before the House and Senate intelligence committees. In his wake, Republicans and Democrats battled over whether his testimony should raise more suspicions about the administration's handling of the attack.

King and other Republicans indicated they still have plenty of questions about the aftermath of the strike.

"No one knows yet exactly who came up with the final version of the talking points," he said.

Petraeus' testimony both challenges the Obama administration's repeated claims that the attack was a "spontaneous" protest over an anti-Islam video, and according to King conflicts with his own briefing to lawmakers on Sept. 14. Sources have said Petraeus, in that briefing, also described the attack as a protest that spun out of control.

"His testimony today was that from the start, he had told us that this was a terrorist attack," King said, adding that he told Petraeus he had a "different recollection."

Still, the claim that the CIA's original talking points were changed is sure to stoke controversy on the Hill.

Egypt: secular and democratic Muslim Brotherhood removes womens rights from new constitution, want those rights applied only under the sharia

Oh goody, inequality as per Muhammad, just like the old days.

“I’m not terrified of Sharia like many women’s rights activists, but what worries me most is who will implement it and according to what understanding. The discourse of Islamist movements is not promising at all.”

There is but one understanding of the sharia and it is not, nor ever has been equal in respect to women.  There is no sharia lite.

From the Egypt Independent November 12 by Mai Shams El-Din

Women's equality article removed from constitution

Members of the Constituent Assembly agreed last week to remove a proposed article which provided some constitutional support for gender equality — provided that such equality did not violate the provisions of Islamic Sharia law.

The episode showed the ability of both liberals and ultra-conservative Salafis to stamp their mark on a constitution-writing process dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Secularists had objected to women’s rights being made conditional on Sharia.

This, they argued, would endanger the whole concept of equality, and could be used as a backdoor to strip women of civil and political rights they have already gained, like the right to be nominated for presidential elections or to hold high government positions, as well as the right to work and education.

Salafi forces, meanwhile, believed that openly granting the right of gender equality without restrictions was a Western idea that would endanger the provisions of Sharia, and would encourage secularists to challenge laws permitting polygamy or change Sharia-compliant inheritance laws.

Removing the article was thus seen as a compromise between the two bitterly opposed factions.

But both gender equality and Sharia are still referenced in the current draft of the constitution.

Article 2 stipulates that the principles of Sharia law are the main source of legislation, while Article 30 states that citizens are equal before the law, with no distinction based on gender, origin, language, religion, dogma, opinion, social status, or disability.

Freedom and Justice Party leader and Constituent Assembly member Amr Darrag said in media reports that the Salafi forces’ fears are unfounded because of Article 2, while secular forces should be reassured by Article 30.

Activist Marwa Sharaf al-Din says, although she is still worried, this could be the best solution available for Egyptian women, given that an article preventing discrimination is present in the draft.

“Ideally, the state should not be only obliged to prevent discrimination, but to protect gender equality as well, given the huge problems women face in our society,” she explains.

Sharaf al-Din says that one general article about discrimination is not enough, calling for specific amendments to target the “atrocities women suffer in society.”

“The constitution is not just a solid legal statement, but a statement of principles as well,” she adds. “Granting the very basic principle of equality for women sends a strong signal to society that this constitution really protects them.”

But others are worried over the omission of an article guaranteeing equality between men and women.

"Rockets of love" from Hamas to Israel

By now the weariness of repeated lies, obfuscation and misdirection should have led us to the conclusion that it is Hamas and their Islamic ideology that is the core problem, but no.  The decades have changed nothing except the level of hatred against Israel.

Once again the battle rages, and until Israel totally destroys Hamas both militarily and theologically (the latter most important) this we see today will always go on.

In a war between the civilized man and the savage, always support the civilized man.  Support Israel, defeat Jihad.

Notice the headline; it implies that Israel is the aggressor while saying nothing about the defensive nature of Israels reaction or why Hamas keeps firing rockets into Israel.  It sets up the reader to see Israel as the bad guy, even before the article is read.

Israel hammers Hamas in Gaza offensive

GAZA (Reuters) - Israel launched a major offensive against Palestinian militants in Gaza on Wednesday, killing the military commander of Hamas in an air strike and threatening an invasion of the enclave that the Islamist group vowed would "open the gates of hell".

The onslaught shattered hopes that a truce mediated on Tuesday by Egypt could pull the two sides back from the brink of war after five days of escalating Palestinian rocket attacks and Israeli strikes at militant targets.

Operation "Pillar of Defence" began with a surgical strike on a car carrying the commander of the military wing of Hamas, the Iranian-armed Islamist movement which controls Gaza and dominates a score of smaller armed groups.

Within minutes of the death of Ahmed Al-Jaabari, big explosions shook Gaza as the Israeli air force struck at selected targets just before sundown, blasting plumes of smoke and debris high above the crowded city.

Panicking civilians ran for cover and the death toll mounted quickly. Ten people including three children were killed, the health ministry said, and about 40 were wounded. Also among the dead were an 11-month-old baby and a woman pregnant with twins.

Army tanks shelled border areas of Gaza in south and the Israeli navy shelled a Hamas security position from the sea.

Hamas stuck back, firing at least four Grad rockets at the southern city of Beersheba in what it called its initial response. Israel reported damage but no casualties. Its 'Iron Dome' interceptor defence knocked out a dozen rockets in flight.

(.)The Israel Defence Forces said it had targeted dozens of Hamas's medium range (up to 40km) underground rocket launch and infrastructure sites in Wednesday's strikes.

"This has significantly damaged the rocket launch capabilities as munitions warehouses owned byHamas and other terror organizations were targeted. In addition, Israeli Navy soldiers targeted several Hamas terror sites stationed along the shoreline of the Gaza Strip," it said in a statement.

The Hamas internal security headquarters in southern Gaza was destroyed. There were no injuries because it had been evacuated. After dark, Gaza looked like a ghost city, with no traffic and no people in the streets, no shops open, no electric lights on.

KILLED IN HIS CAR

Hamas said Jaabari, who ran the organization's armed wing, Izz el-Deen Al-Qassam, died along with aHamas photographer when their car was blown apart by an Israeli missile.

The charred wreckage of a car could be seen belching flames, as emergency crews picked up what appeared to be body parts.

Israel confirmed it had carried out the attack and announced there was more to come. Reuters witnesses saw Hamas security compounds and police stations blasted apart.

"Today we relayed a clear message to the Hamas organization and other terrorist organizations," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. "And if there is a need, the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) is prepared to broaden the operation. We will continue to do everything in order to protect our citizens."

Immediate calls for revenge were broadcast over Hamas radio.

"The occupation has opened the gates of hell," Hamas's armed wing said. Smaller groups also vowed to strike back.

"Israel has declared war on Gaza and they will bear the responsibility for the consequences," Islamic Jihad said.

Al-Azhar University head imam viciously blames Israel for defending themselves

Al-Azhar, global seat of Sunni jurisprudence is where Sunnis look for all things Islam.  When the imam speaks, Muslims listen.  When Mohamed Ahmed El Tayeb says Israel is practicing barbarism and that the UN should step in and stop Israel, he is continuing the historical Islamic narrative that the Jews and Israel are to be driven out of their country and as many killed as possible.  The West will ignore his calls, and Muslim apologists will deny his words were ever spoken, or that they were taken out of context.

Al-Azhar Grand Imam slams Israeli attacks on Gaza

The Grand Imam of Egypt's powerful al-Azhar Mosque denounced Israel's strikes on Gaza on Wednesday, calling them the "Zionist army's bombing of innocent civilians", Egyptian and Saudi news sources reported.

As opposed to "Muhammads army bombing innocent civilians"

In his statement on Wednesday, Mohamed Ahmed El Tayeb warned the "Zionist entity" against continuing the strikes, which he said were "brutal" and would lead the entire region into a wider conflict.
El Tayeb called on the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to act for the people of Gaza and deter the "usurper entity from exercising its barbarism against defenseless civilians", according to Saudi Arabia's Bab news site.

Projection alert.

The Grand Imam said Palestinians in Gaza had a "right to live safely like any other human beings."

However, in his statement El Tayeb did not mention or allude to the rocket attacks against Israel.

Britain's most wanted jihadist free to roam the streets, will not be deported

Abu Qatada successfully fought his extradition to Jordan, on the grounds that if he was returned the Jordanian authorities would put him on trial and use information obtained through torture against him.

Can't have that now, can we?  Better to let him out on bail and have him monitored and on probation.  Let us know how that works for you, OK?

From the Telegraph November 12 by Tom Whitehead

Abu Qatada back on streets after being given bail

A senior immigration judge ruled the hate preacher should not be sent to Jordan, where he faces terror charges, because he stands the risk of evidence being used against him that was obtained by torture.
Qatada will be released on bail tomorrow, subject to a 16 hour a day curfew and other restrictions, according to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission.
The judge said Theresa May, the Home Secretary, had failed to satisfy the court that Qatada would be given a fair trial.
The ruling is a humiliation for Mrs May who personally travelled to Jordan to obtain assurances that torture evidence would not be used.
But Siac effectively dismissed those guarantees in an appeal brought by Qatada.
The decision comes despite the fact the British courts have previously ruled that it is safe to return Qatada, who was once described at Osama bin Laden’s right hand man in Europe.

The case was only back at Siac because the European Court of Human Rights ruled earlier this year that he should not be deported because of the risk of torture evidence.

Today’s decision will fuel the row over European judges effectively dictating domestic law.

‘Destroy the idols,’ Egyptian jihadist calls for removal of Sphinx, Pyramids

An Egyptian jihad leader, with self-professed links to the Taliban, called for the “destruction of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids in Egypt,” drawing ties between the Egyptian relics and Buddha statues, local media reported this week.

Murgan Salem al-Gohary, an Islamist leader twice-sentenced under former President Hosni Mubarak for advocating violence, called on Muslims to remove such “idols.”

“All Muslims are charged with applying the teachings of Islam to remove such idols, as we did in Afghanistan when we destroyed the Buddha statues,” he said on Saturday during a television interview on an Egyptian private channel, widely watched by Egyptian and Arab audiences.
“God ordered Prophet Mohammed to destroy idols,” he added. “When I was with the Taliban we destroyed the statue of Buddha, something the government failed to do.”

His comments came a day after thousands of ultraconservative Islamists gathered in Tahrir Square to call for the strict application of Sharia law in the new constitution.

But in retaliation to Gohary’s remarks, the vice president of Tunisia’s Ennahda party, Sheikh Abdel Fattah Moro, called the live program and told Gohary that famous historic military commander Amr ibn al-Aas did not destroy statues when he conquered Egypt.

“So who are you to do it?” he wondered. “The Prophet destroyed the idols because people worshiped them, but the Sphinx and the Pyramids are not worshiped.”

Gohary, 50, is well-known in Egypt for his advocacy of violence, Egypt Independent reported.

Gaza Savages Time Their Rockets to Kill Children

A direct strike on a home in Sderot was reported after 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, as Gaza terrorists continued to fire a barrage of missiles at Israeli civilian men, women and children.

Initial reports said no one was injured despite the direct hit.

Many of the rockets fired Sunday were timed for the end of the school day, in order to try and kill or maim children. More than 100 rockets were fired during the day.

A Be'er Sheva resident named Barbara told Arutz Sheva: "They timed the attack at just the time all the kids got out of school...mine too!! First time I was ever close to hysterical was today."

"This has to stop," said Gershon, another resident of "the capital of the Negev."

"The rocket attack was at 13:58," he said, "when all the kids were walking home from school and I was on my way to pick up my daughter. The whole city should keep their children home until the rocket attacks stop."

West Bank Rabbi says Islamization of Europe a good thing

Rabbi Efrati was asked how Europe could regain its culture and society against the onslaught of Muslim immigrants, and he responded by saying that "...the Islamization of Europe was better than a Christian Europe for ethical and theological reasons – as a punishment against Christians for persecuting the Jews"

Another self-hating Jew sets up his people to be murdered by the bucketful.

From YNet November 11 by Kobi Nahshoni

'Islamization of Europe a good thing'
As concerns grow over the increasing number of Muslims in Europe, it appears not everyone is bothered by the issue, including an Israeli rabbi who even welcomes the phenomenon.
Rabbi Baruch Efrati, a yeshiva head and community rabbi in the West Bank settlement of Efrat, believes that the Islamization of Europe is actually a good thing.

"With the help of God, the gentiles there will adopt a healthier life with a lot of modesty and integrity, and not like the hypocritical Christianity which appears pure but is fundamentally corrupt," he explained.

Rabbi Efrati was asked to discuss the issue by an oriental studies student, who inquired on Judaism's stand toward the process Europe has been going through in recent years.
Following the election of a hijab-wearing Muslim woman as the mayor of the Bosnian city of Visoko for the first time in continent's history, the student asked the rabbi on the Kipa website: "How do we fight the Islamization of Europe and return it to the hands of Christians and moderates?"
Efrati wrote in response that the Islamization of Europe was better than a Christian Europe for ethical and theological reasons – as a punishment against Christians for persecuting the Jews and the fact that Christianity, as opposed to Islam, is considered "idolatry" from a halachic point of view.
"Jews should rejoice at the fact that Christian Europe is losing its identity as a punishment for what it did to us for the hundreds of years were in exile there," the rabbi explained as the ethical reason for favoring Muslims, quoting shocking descriptions from the Rishonim literature (written by leading rabbis who lived during the 11th to 15th centuries) about pogroms and mass murders committed by Christians against Jews.
"We will never forgive Europe's Christians for slaughtering millions of our children, women and elderly… Not just in the recent Holocaust, but throughout the generations, in a consistent manner which characterizes all factions of hypocritical Christianity…
"A now, Europe is losing its identity in favor of another people and another religion, and there will be no remnants and survivors from the impurity of Christianity, which shed a lot of blood it won't be able to atone for."

'Islam a relatively honest religion'

The theological reason, according to Rabbi Efrati, is that Christianity – which he sees as idolatry – has a tendency to "destroy normal life and abstain from it on the one hand, while losing modesty on the other hand," as it "ranges between radical monasticism to radical Western licentiousness."
Islam, the rabbi added, is "a religion which misjudges its prophets but is relatively honest.

"Kill the Hindus, kill the children of the Hindus"

Yet to point out the brutality within Islam, explained by leading and accepted Islamic leaders would be Islsmophobic.

From The Times Online November 9

Pakistan's minority Hindus feel under attack

They came after dusk and chanted into the night sky "Kill the Hindus, kill the children of the Hindus," as they smashed religious icons, ripped golden bangles off women's arms and flashed pistols. It wasn't the first time that the Hindu temple on the outskirts of Pakistan's largest city was attacked, and residents here fear it will not be the last.

"People don't consider us as equal citizens. They beat us whenever they want," said Mol Chand, one of the teenage boys gathered at the temple. "We have no place to worship now."

It was the second time the Sri Krishna Ram temple has been attacked, and this time the mob didn't even bother to disguise their faces. The small temple, surrounded by a stone wall, is a tiny religious outpost in a dusty, hardscrabble neighborhood so far on the outskirts of the city that a sign on the main road wishes people leaving Karachi a good journey.

Local Muslim residents blamed people from a nearby ethnic Pashtun village for the attack, which took place in late September on the Day of Love for the Prophet, a national holiday declared by the government in response to an anti-Islam film made in the U.S. No one was seriously injured in the attack.

It was the latest in a rising tide of violence and discrimination against Hindus in this 95 percent Muslim country, where Islamic extremism is growing. Pakistan's Hindu community says it faces forced conversions of Hindu girls to Islam, a lack of legal recognition for their marriages, discrimination in services and physical abuse when they venture into the streets.

The story of the Hindu population in Pakistan is one of long decline. During partition in 1947, the violent separation of Pakistan and India into separate countries, hundreds of thousands of Hindus opted to migrate to India where Hinduism is the dominant religion. Those that remained and their descendants now make up a tiny fraction of Pakistan's estimated 190 million citizens, and are mostly concentrated in Sindh province in the southern part of the country.

Signs of their former stature abound in Karachi, the capital of Sindh. At the 150-year-old Swami Narayan Temple along one of the city's main roads, thousands of Hindus gather during the year to celebrate major religious holidays. Hindus at the 200-year-old Laxmi Narain Temple scatter the ashes of their cremated loved ones in the waters of an inlet from the Arabian Ocean.

But there are also signs of how far the community has fallen. Residents in a city hungry for land have begun to build over Hindu cemeteries, the community's leaders say. Hindus helped build Karachi's port decades ago, but none work there now.

Estimates of the size of the Hindu population in Pakistan are all over the map _ from 2.5 million or 10 million in Sindh province alone to 7 million across the country _ a reflection of the fact that the country hasn't had a census since 1998.

Obama win gives flag sales in Pakistan another boost

The heat of hate

As I reported here earlier, Pakistan, after the attack and murder of Christopher Stevens and three others saw a 500% increase in the sale and immolation of American flags.  Now, with the Obama win it seems another round of unprecedented sales and production of flags from the US.

At least we can help their economy by giving them a symbol they can profit from by destroying.

Flags on fire: Obama win may be good news for Pakistan flag-makers

Many Pakistanis fear President Barack Obama’s re-election will mean a surge in America’s unpopular drone campaign, but for those making and selling U.S. flags to burn at protests this could be good news.

Demonstrations against Washington’s program of missile strikes against suspected Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants are common in Pakistan, and no protest is complete without a Stars and Stripes being sent up in flames.

Nadeem Shah, the owner of a flag business in Rawalpindi, the twin city of the capital Islamabad, said he expected more drone strikes -- and more protests.

“Of course Obama has become stronger now and he will push his policies harder and there will be more drone strikes because he himself is stronger now,” Shah told AFP.

“When the drone strikes increase the protests against these strikes will also increase in Pakistan and it can have an impact on the flags and poster business.”

Saudi sharia judges decry Westernizing "stench" of legal reforms

(Reuters) - Saudi judges who enforce sharia (Islamic law) have condemned what they see as "the stench of Western ideas" in sweeping legal reforms pushed by King Abdullah, underscoring friction between government modernizers and religious hardliners.

In a letter to Justice Minister Mohammed al-Issa seen by Reuters, eight judges complained about foreign trainers who shave their beards contrary to purist Islam, the minister's meetings with diplomats of "infidel" states and plans to let women practice as lawyers.

The authenticity of the letter, which did not directly criticize either the king or Issa, was confirmed by a source in the Justice Ministry who said it was sent late last month.

Saudi lawyers and political analysts say the judicial reforms announced by King Abdullah in 2007 and supported by Issa are needed to make the legal system more efficient and modern.

"The system deters investors, who find the judiciary opaque. Outdated administrative procedures and inadequate judicial training remain problems," the U.S. embassy said in an assessment in 2009 revealed by WikiLeaks.

Since becoming de facto regent while he was crown prince in 1995, Abdullah has pursued cautious reforms aimed at modernizing Saudi Arabia's economy and making it more socially open, but he has often been blocked by powerful religious conservatives.
