The Tipping Point in Europe

More and more we hear about Europeans and their rising angst over their "immigrant" problem.  Burqa's have been banned in France, no minarets in Switzerland, and there are other legislative proposals in Italy, Belgium and a few others which will address the growing concerns with Islam.

For decades, European countries have had their doors wide open, welcoming any and all immigrants from third-world countries.  They needed cheap labor by the millions, and the immigrants were happy to oblige.  It was always assumed that the immigrants would assimilate: become part of that culture and society.  If one looks at parts of France, or England, or Sweden it is obvious this assimilation did not happen, and for all practicality it never will.

The anger from locals against what is seen as creeping sharia and jihad is more than palpable, it is coming to a head.  German PM Angela Merkel recently said that in Germany, multiculturalism has been a monumental failure, a sentiment echoed by many European heads.  As more people understand the implications of Islamism, resentment grows, and this article shows just how angry Europeans are becoming.

The "clash of civilizations" may be right around the corner.

Muslims seen as threat by 4 in 10 French, Germans

Four in 10 French and German people see Muslims living in their country as a "threat," according to a poll published Tuesday by French newspaper Le Monde.

Forty-two percent of French people and 40 percent of Germans questioned by pollster IFOP said they considered the presence of a Muslim community in their country "a threat" to their national identity, Le Monde said.

The findings of the study "go beyond linking immigration with security or immigration with unemployment, to linking Islam with a threat to identity," said Jerome Fourquet of IFOP, quoted by Le Monde.

It is one thing for immigrants to blend their customs and culture as part of their adopted homelands "melting pot", it is quite another to make their culture and customs the dominate influence over historical norms.  It is important to note what Robert Spencer points out, that when a non-Muslim is in a Muslim land he must conform to Muslim norms, and when a non-Muslim is in a non-Muslim land he must also conform to Muslim norms.
