Italy banned Islam's religious tax status, why can't we?

Dr. Richard Swier explains here the reasons under which the US can, and should remove Islam's tax status as exempt.  He uses Italy as the example and is very clear on the reasoning why we should follow their lead.  A great piece from the dear Dr.

Italy denies Islam status as a religion
By Dr. Richard Swier April 3

Did you know that in August of 2010 Italy passed legislation denying Islam's religious tax status? Neither did I until I attended a presentation by Lieutenant General William G. "Jerry" Boykin, co-author of the seminal report Sharia: The Threat to America.
ADN Kronos International reports, "Politicians from the ruling coalition cite radical imams, polygamy and failure to uphold women's rights by Muslims immigrants as obstacles to recognizing Islam as an official religion in Italy." It is interesting that we have the same problem here in the United States with Muslim Brotherhood linked organizations that adhere to Sharia Islam.
The chart below depicts Muslim Brotherhood linkages within the United States:
U.S. Code outlaws members of "totalitarian parties". To some experts the Muslim Brotherhood and its members fit under the category of "Islamist collaborator" as defined in current laws. Here are the specific citations:
8 U.S.C. 1182 (a)(3)(D)(i) Illegal membership in totalitarian party. In general any person  who is or has been a member of or affiliated with the Communist or any other totalitarian party (or subdivision or affiliate thereof), domestic or foreign, is inadmissible.
Using 8 U.S.C. 1182 the Muslim Students Association, for example, is an affiliate of the totalitarian political party named the Muslim Brotherhood, which is based in Egypt. Therefore its presence in public schools, publicly funded college campuses and universities is illegal. All public funding and support, according to our laws, must be withdrawn immediately.
A second example is the U.S. Patriot Act which states:
U.S. Patriot Act HR3162 Subtitle B –Section 411 makes it unlawful to represent political, social or similar groups, whose public endorsements of terrorist activities undermines our efforts to reduce or eliminate terrorism.
The Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliate organizations such as the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Muslim Students Association would fall under this category of a "political, social or similar group that publicly endorses organizations such as Hamas. This representation was proven by the Holy Land Foundation trial evidence. According to experts, this is a breech of law does not require a finding of imminent danger to deny CAIR, MSA and other Muslim Brotherhood organization tax exempt status.
Perhaps it is time for our legislators at every level to review how we define Sharia Islam and recognize, as did Italy, that Sharia Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood are not religious but rather a geo-political system with U.S. based organizations created to follow and spread laws that violate our Constitution and core human rights values.
