My name is Roger Murdock, and I am the co-pilot...

Up until today, I only saw Kareem Abdul Jabar as a funny guy with a goofy smile, trying to ignore little Jimmy's probing comments on his court skills in the movie "Airplane!".  Not being a sports fan in any way, and please do not ask me to explain, I never saw Kareem as a sports figure.  Now, however I have had to reasses my position on the man and examine who he really is, and what he means when he speaks.

It would appear he has bought into the great lie of Islamophobia, and where the fingers should be pointed.  I am greatly disappointed in his shallow understanding of his own religion, although I am sure he is probably a MINO (Muslim in name only) with very little actual practicing of the tenets.  That is OK, but by believing that Islamophobia is the fault of the US policy/action/thinking he perpetuates the idea that Muslims have nothing to address  in the way of self-examination of how their doctrine is being acted upon, or how virtually every time there is an attempted, or successful "terrorist" attack the perpetrators always justify their actions by the Qur'an, hadiths and sunna.

Now if Kareem really wanted to make a positive difference he could have instead told Muslims they must co-operate with law enforcment to root out the jihadists and Islamists in their midst, to open the mosques to any and all who wanted more information om Islam, teach in all madrassas and Islamic schools the importance of becoming an American first, and show through actions, not just words that there is nothing more important than being a "first citizen" of the modern world.

Until that happens, we will see the likes of Kareem Abdul Jabar continue to "misunderstand" Islam.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: ‘Islamophobia is on the rise’

(.)“I think Islamophobia is on the rise,” the former Los Angeles Laker said. “I think the best way to counter it is just communication, to let people who we are and what we believe in. It’s no mystery and it’s certainly nothing that we have to be fearful of.”
He went on to say that when we’re dealing with radical people who “want to have a war with us, that gets thrown into the mix. A whole lot of confusion ensues.”

Yes, and you're not helping, Kareem.
