Violent protests in Jakarta over Muhammad blasphemy movie

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - Protests are mounting around the Indonesia over the blasphemous movie about Muhammad. This morning, a mob of about a thousand people attacked the US Embassy in Jakarta with sticks, stones and Molotov cocktails, including members of the Islamic Defender Front (FPI).

The rally began peacefully but was eventually taken over by extremists groups who attacked police guarding the US diplomatic mission. The authorities arrested four FPI members for possessing weapons and similar paraphernalia.

Police and demonstrators clashed also in North Medan (Sumatra), Bandung (West Java) and Solo (Central Java). Mobs attacked fast-food restaurants, symbols of US culture, including Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's.

Violent anti-US protest erupts in Kabul

The demonstration erupted on Jalalabad Road, home to NATO and US military bases in the eastern part of the Afghan capital, with two police cars among those set ablaze, Kabul police chief Mohammad Ayoub Salangi told AFP.

A low-budget trailer for a movie entitled "Innocence of Muslims," believed to have been produced by a small group of extremist Christians in the United States, has sparked furious anti-American protests across the Islamic world.

Gunmen from the crowd -- which Salangi said numbered around 1,000 -- opened fire at police, but Salangi said he had told officers not to return fire to avoid escalating the violence.

Between 40 to 50 policemen were "very slightly wounded" by stone throwers and members of the crowd waving sticks, said Salangi, who added that he had also been grazed by a stone.

An AFP photographer said burning tyres sent thick black smoke streaming into the sky and large stones littered the road as shopkeepers hurriedly locked up and ran away.

There was a heavy police presence and firefighters were quickly scrambled to try to extinguish the flames engulfing cars and storage containers owned by private businesses.

A local district police official, who gave his name only as Hafiz, said protesters threw stones at Camp Phoenix, a US-run military base in the area.

"Police drove them back from areas round the base," he said. The crowd had moved instead to the nearby Hodkhail bazaar, a few blocks from the base.

Lieutenant Colonel Hagen Masser, a spokesman for the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Camp Phoenix had not come under attack.

"We heard that the demonstration could turn into something more violent. But it's only in the vicinity of Camp Phoenix, so it's not an attack," he told AFP.

"We're monitoring the situation and we are ready. But it's the task of the police."

Afghanistan has a history of street protests turning violent, particularly over perceived insults to Islam, but until Monday isolated protests over the film were calm.

Invitation to Join an Upgraded Species:

This is an invitation to Functional individuals of a corrupt species - i.e., the human species called, "Man." This invitation was originally offered by the first New Man or Son of Man, but it has since collected of clerical additions. However, after two thousand years, the invitation is still open. Indeed, in the moment before your death, the invitation will still be open to you.

Definitions for Functional and Non-Functional Individuals:

With righteous rage, a Functional individual can Kill. With recycled mob rage, a Non-Functional can only Murder. By definition, Non-Functional individuals cannot think for themselves; they can only take orders as assassins (Group-think). When mob rage becomes murderous, Non-Functional individuals become a subject of cartoons; their demand for dignity and respect is a joke. They have no depth. They are flat - like cartoons.
