No luck rubbing the Buddha belly in Thailand

Thailand has been the scene of much Islamic agitation in the recent past, with buddhists taking the brunt of attacks, beheadings and bombings.  Pattani, in the south has been especially hard hit, as this piece shows.  I spent time in Pattani beach in the late 70s, when tourists flooded that area and the pace of life was slow and tropical.  I ate the best seafood there, had a nice rental house on the beach and enjoyed the people, sun and local culture.  I have many fond memories of that time, and feel deeply for those who are now suffering under the "religion of peace."

At least they cannot blow up the memories I carry from those days.

Rebels kill three, burn bodies in Thai south

The killings follow several high-profile attacks in the past three weeks, including a raid on an army camp, a massive roadside bombing, the execution-style shooting of a Buddhist family and a series of drive-by attacks.
