The supression of open dialogue about Islamic texts, tenets and how Islamic doctrine is defined toady by it's leaders will only lead to more of this. It is said that crimes involving family "honor" is not exclusively the domain of Islam, yet it is Islam which practices this tradition more than any other culture. This behavior towards women is based in such Qur'anic references as "...and send them to beds apart, and beat them..." (sura 4, verse 34) and "...a man shall inherit twice that of a woman..."(sura 4, verse 11) or the numerous hadiths where Muhammad observes that most occupants of Hell are women.
It is no wonder her father and brother beat her and threatened her life, they were only following the example of Muhammad as "al-insan al-kamil", the perfect man.
They did it because she dared to date an infidel.
We will be told that the father and brother were "misunderstanding" Islam. That list seems to be growing quite fast, don't you think?

A Harry Potter actress fled her home after her father and brother threatened to kill her for going out with a Hindu man, a court heard yesterday.
Afshan Azad, 22, who appeared in the blockbuster movies as Padma Patil, was attacked and branded a ‘slag’(prostitute-ed) when Muslim relatives found out about her boyfriend.
The actress was so scared that she escaped out of her bedroom window and later fled her home city.
Her father Abul, and brother Ahraf were found guilty of assault, and not guilty of threats to kill her. I guess that makes them "moderate" Muslims.
Judge Roger Thomas QC told (the brother Ashraf): ‘Violence in the home is all too prevalent. That sort of violence, domestic violence, can result, even for a man such as you, in imprisonment.’
I guess the judge means the everyday, white-bread, vanilla, have a beer and beat your family members sort of domestic violence which is practiced by all civilized societies and cultures instead of the inculcated repression of women so prevalent in Islamic culture.
