Press Release: Current action with Lane Community College

Here is the next step regarding LCC and my cancelled class "What is Islam".  The class will be held, details in the release.

PRESS RELEASE: LANE COMMUNITY COLLEGE STANDS FIRM, HAS NOT REINSTATE THE CLASS “WHAT IS ISLAM”,  CLASS TO PROCEED AS PLANNED AT AN OUTSIDE VENUE

This is Barry Sommer, Act!4America Lane Country chapter leader and fired teacher at Lane Community College due to my class “What is Islam”.  Pressure from the Council on American Islamic Relations and other concerns caused LCC to cancel the class, and now they are being called to task for their possible violations of several laws, including free speech rights.

Yesterday, Dec 15 was the deadline LCC had to reinstate the class, and myself as the teacher, and they did not.  Today, Dec 16 the ACLJ sent a Freedom of Information demand to Lane Community College with LCC, which requires LCC to turn over to the ACLJ all emails, meeting minutes, communications between parties concerned and any type of discussion about this issue.

The ACLJ and myself are exploring any and all options at this time.

The class is going to go forward, no matter what the outcome.  For those who tried to register at LCC but could not, and for those who wish to take the class, please email me at
